‘My divorce was unfortunate but necessary’ – Barima Sidney

Hiplife artist Kofi Oppong Ofori, widely known in the Ghanaian music space as Barima Sidney, has opened up on his marriage of 16 years hitting the rocks.

In a sit-down interview with blogger Felix Adomako Mensah on the YouTube channel Zionfelix TV on April 21, 2020, Barima Sidney was economical with his response when the host pressed him for reasons for his divorce. “It was unfortunate but necessary,” he said, leaving his teeming supporters in their maze of confusion, worsening as they sought to know the exact reason(s) behind the divorce.

Barima Sidney disclosed that though he was divorced, there was no acrimony between him and his ex-wife, Emmanuella Modey. The couple’s marriage, from December 18, 2004, to March 2020, was blessed with four (4) children—Samantha Ofori, Kimathy Ofori Modey, Barima Owusu Ofori, and Zermie Pomaa Ofori.

The musician declined the question on his possible future plans to remarry, only noting that he would leave everything to Christ.

The hiplife artist who shot to fame in 2001 with his debut album “Tinana” has since proven a force to be reckoned with in the Ghanaian showbiz industry. Barima Sidney is also credited as a political musician and an anti-corruption crusader, with his “Africa Money” song continuing to make waves not only in Ghana but across Africa.

Barima Sidney’s ex-wife, Ms. Modey, who used to be a dancer, currently works as a beautician and the chief executive officer of Casa De Bella Salon in North Kaneshie, Accra.
