The Ghana National Mosque located at Kawukudi, in Accra, is a replica of the Blue Mosque in Istanbul – Turkey.
It is West Africa’s second biggest mosque. The Kawukudi location is significant in that the mosque is close to the Muslim-predominant settlements of Nima and Mamobi and it is also closer to the seat of government – the Jubilee House.
The Islamic edifice, which sits on a 42-acre land with a 15,000 seater-capacity, was commissioned on July 16, 2021 by President Akufo Addo and Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at a grand ceremony.
The coming into being of the National Mosque has since been a source of religious fortitude, in one way or the other, to the over 17.6% Muslim population in Ghana.
I paid a visit to the facility in a feature I filmed for Onua TV. The attached video tells you how beautiful the Ghana National Mosque is. Enjoy!
